What a Wednesday!

Piper got her first "real" haircut this afternoon, I mean other than just a little trim here or there. She's got a real little girl bob and bangs and just looks adorable (pictures are forthcoming)! I think she's really pleased with the finished product too, she couldn't stop smiling as we were leaving the salon. Almost all of the baby hair that was left or still growing out is gone (sniff, sniff!).

Oh, and while there, she kept staring at the woman in the chair next to her, who was getting her roots colored...and staring...and staring. Finally, she pointed at her and said, "Mommy, dat lady putting paint in dat lady's hair!"

Boone started crawling tonight! He focused in on a toy he wanted and crawled a short distance over to it like he'd been crawling for weeks. A few minutes later he did it again. And then that was it for the night. The first time he did it, Ger, Pip and I all cheered and clapped for him. He promptly sat up, laughed and joined in on the clapping.

Pinch, pinch...life is good!

Lower that Crib!

Guess who's figured out how to sit up in his crib? Yep. Boone woke up in the middle of the night Saturday/early Sunday morning. I went to check on him because he was making a strange wimpering noise. When I went into his room he was sitting upright with his eyes closed, kicking his legs and moving around in a circle. Apparently, he'd somehow managed to get himself upright and couldn't figure out how to lay back down! I layed him back down and he went right back to sleep. And ever since then, whenever he wakes up and we go in to get him, he's sitting up.

This morning, when Ger went in to wake Boone up, he came back out of his room smiling and was waving me in to look at him. He had sat up at some point during the night, and then had layed back down, while still sitting up. So he was sound asleep bent in half, with his head resting on his feet. Oh, to be that flexible! Well, I guess it's time to lower the crib...

More Labor Day Weekend

Guess what's in that pot?

Yep, we kicked off the Labor Day weekend with some delicious steamed crabs!

This was the first time Piper had ever seen them alive, she wasn't too fond of them moving around and kept asking us, "They no move no more after we cook them?" Once they were cooked, she thoroughly enjoyed them.
We did a little exploring at a nearby park we'd never been to before, Lynches River County Park. It was quite the little hidden gem. Most of our time was spent at the playground, exploring down by the river and at the nature center, where they had lots and lots of things inside for little hands to touch and a swinging bridge outside.
Do skunks really stink?

Boone was quite the contented camper to be spending time outside.

What?

Time for Cheerios!!

We made smores for the first time. Piper was most interested in the "raw" ingredients, as the finished product was "jus too sticky on my hans". However, I think she ate her bodyweight in graham crackers, marshmellows and "shocolate" and made the rounds making sure everyone knew that "fire is dansheris". They recently had camping week at school and I think the campfire was a hot topic.

And we fished for the first time in the pond. What a good time it was! We've been feeding the first every few days since we added them too the pond and they are quite eager feeders. So as soon as we threw the baited hook into the water, within a few seconds the bobber was going under and we had a catch! It was perfect entertainment for a toddler's attention span and gave her a chance to see what fishing is all about. She was quite amazed at what the fish looked like out of the water, but wasn't sure she wanted to touch them.

We've already gotten requests to make more smores and fish again.

Lovely Labor Day Weekend

Lovely, as in all weekend long BOTH kids have slept in until 7 or later!!!! Absolutely wonderful. For those who don't think this is too late, let me put things into perspective. The time they have been sleeping in until, is the time the are usually getting dropped off at school during the week! Yeah for long weekends and sleeping in.

Oh, and here's what Boone's hair has been looking like when he wakes up. Hum????

Progress

Just a few updates on our little fellow. At 10 months, he's been a busy, busy boy. He's recently started clapping and is just so proud of himself when he does it. We think he's starting to wave, but it's a real stiff-armed kind of salute. We think that's what it is, but not quite sure yet.

He's pulling up on things and is getting good at getting up to his knees. He's really trying to get up on all fours to get crawling, but still has the weeble-wobbles when he tries. So he usually settles for either getting on his belly and scooting in reverse or getting on his back and kicking his legs to move around for now.

He's eating up a storm, and loves to feed himself, preferably whatever we are eating.

He says mama and ma alot, but we are learning that in addition to Mommy, he's also using it for "more" (as in food...keep it coming people!) or for "milk" (as in, get that bottle that I can see over to me STAT!). He's also starting to use the sippy cup every once in awhile and is doing great with it.

He's gotten much, much better with his nighttime sleep, but it's been a slow process. He's such an easy baby to put to bed, his problem has just been staying asleep all night once in his crib. His latest is to wake up around 5 or 5:30am and try to start his day. We will hear him in his crib talking and having a good time. The first few mornings this started we got him up, but we've revised our plan and are now working on letting him stay in there and hang out until a more respectable hour! So far he's going for it, and sometimes we use the paci or his mobile to help entice him. So let's hope we are on our way to him actually sleeping until a more respectable hour!

His legs are getting sooooo long. We're going to have to move him to a convertible car seat very soon, as his feet now hang off the end of his infant seat.

He loves to be in the middle of whereever the action is. Otherwise he is craning his neck to try to get a look at whatever is going on.

He loves Tucker and is starting to enjoy "petting" him. Jury is still out as to whether or not Tucker enjoys this new found attention.

He loves his big sister and loves to get his hands all over her toys, preferably while she is playing with them.

He loves to be held and to snuggle. His favorite ways to snuggle is forehead-to-forehead or cheek-to-cheek.

Osten are you there?

Piper and Osten have recently gotten really into talking to each other on the phone. Whenever, Aunt Ria and I are on the phone, we each get requests from either Piper or Osten to be able to talk on the phone. I happened to capture one of Piper's most recent conversations with Osten.

And the funny thing is they actually talk to each other. Sometimes they need a little help getting started, but then they are off to the races telling each other about things they have going on. Won't be long before we'll have to use speaker phone for Marci and Boone to participate and three-way calling to get Jackson in on the action too!

Fun with food

Remember that post awhile back about Boone's love for biter biscuits? Well, I've had this picture since that post and just haven't managed to get it posted. Here's a shot of some of his handy work. Looks like one satisfied customer, huh?

Here's another picture I've had since early in the summer. I think it really captures the pure joy that comes with having some cold ice cream on a hot summer day. Yum!

Partners in Crime

Pip and Boone are beginning to have more and more fun together. He's taking much more notice of her, in fact he keeps an eye on her every move and thinks she's just about the funniest thing he has ever seen.

This has become quite the tradition at our house lately, weekend pancake breakfast on the deck.

Their first bath together. I'm not sure who was more excited?

Piper was so proud when she found the "B for Boone", she couldn't wait to give it to him. Something was apparently lost in translation, Boone thought she was trying to feed him a nice, big orange snack.

Have wagon...will explore!

Hold still please while I slobber, I mean kiss you!

Look at that pure sweetness! Hanging onto his sissy's arm as she shows him how to use one of her favorite toys when she was his age.

This has become one of the favorite ways to spend time early in the AM on the weekends. Piper loves to have her school nap-mat at home for it's weekend washing, and it seems to attract everyone for some snuggle time.

More fun in the wagon.

Boone's first time on the swings. Piper was there to show him what to do.
